How a place performs on the body that lives in it — measured at the resolution of the dwelling, not the neighborhood.
Environmental-health science has established that the features of the places people live — greenness, light, noise, air, temperature, biodiversity — track measurable differences in sleep, cardiovascular function, cognition, and stress. But the field measures human biology at individual resolution while assigning environmental exposure at neighborhood-to-city scale. Sensorial Performance closes that gap: it reads the environment at the scale people actually occupy — the parcel and the dwelling — so it can be joined to the same person's biology over time.
The score is read from the outside in. A place is the ground you stand on; it reaches you through your senses; and it lands, finally, in the body that has to live and perform there. That innermost layer — the body — is what the whole measurement is for. Everything around it is what produces it.
The layer that matters most is the middle one. A high-performing place does not hand the body a single fixed condition — it offers a range to choose from: sun or shade, quiet or company, still air or a breeze, a place to move or a place to rest. Optionality is itself the value, and the agency of choosing is one of the things a body reads as thriving. The more good choices a place offers, the better it performs on the people who live in it.
The six channels below live inside this picture. Air, Light, Noise, and Thermal are the senses — the conditions a place offers, each best read as a range rather than a dose. Nature is the living ground itself. And Microbiome is the one channel that runs all the way to the core: the living soil a place holds becomes, through contact, the body's own immunity. The channels are what is measured; this is how they meet the person.
Each channel is chosen because it maps to a distinct, documented human-outcome literature and a distinct way to measure it. The framework reports the strength of each honestly.
Two paths. Estimated — any U.S. address resolves to a parcel-scale reading drawn from public datasets (soil, terrain, climate, flood exposure, observed biodiversity), with no on-site hardware. Measured — direct field and sensor readings taken on the property itself. Either way, the evidentiary status of each channel is stated plainly: Air, Light, and Noise rest on controlled human trials and WHO-grade reviews; Thermal and Nature on consistent but largely observational evidence; Microbiome is a candidate channel, named to be explicit about scope rather than to claim parity.
It is a way to ask, for a given property and a given person, whether improving the environment measurably improves the body that lives in it — and to pre-register that test. It is not a clinic's instrument and makes no diagnostic claim. The relationships it draws on are, with few exceptions, associations from observational and short-term experimental studies, and are described as such throughout the work.

Sensorial Performance is the precursor to Sensorial Choice. The first version asked a narrow question: how does a place perform on the body that lives in it? That question still stands, and everything measured under it still holds. What it left out was the part that turned out to matter most— a place does not only act on a person. It widens or narrows what that person is able to choose.
Sensorial Choice keeps the six channels and the property-resolution method intact, and carries what the first version could not: cultural heritage, the psychological weight of a place, resilience, and optionality— the range of ways a person can live well somewhere. Performance measures the response. Choice measures the room.
